 рд╢्рд░ी рд╣рдиुрдоाрди рдЪाрд▓ीрд╕ा

The Hanuman Chalisa is more than a prayer describing Hanuman's extraordinary strength. It presents Hanuman as an ideal of wisdom, courage, humility, loyalty, selfless service, and complete devotion to Lord Rama.

His physical strength represents courage.

His wisdom represents right understanding.

His service to Rama represents selflessness.

His humility represents freedom from ego.

His devotion represents complete surrender to the divine.

Garuda Panchami – The Sacred Festival of Bhagavan Garuda

Garuda Panchami is a sacred Hindu festival dedicated to Bhagavan Garuda, the divine vehicle (Vahana) of Bhagavan Vishnu and the king of birds. The festival is traditionally observed on Shukla Panchami, the fifth lunar day of the waxing fortnight, during the month of Shravana. In Tamil tradition, it is associated with the month of Aadi.

Garuda is revered as a symbol of strength, courage, devotion, protection, wisdom and freedom from obstacles. The story of Garuda teaches us that sincere devotion, determination and righteousness can overcome even the greatest difficulties.

The Birth of Garuda

According to Hindu tradition, Sage Kashyapa had two wives, Kadru and Vinata. Kadru desired a thousand sons and was blessed with a thousand serpent children. Vinata, wishing for powerful and extraordinary children, asked for two sons.

Vinata received two eggs. However, she became impatient when the eggs did not hatch for a long time. In her impatience, she broke open one of them. From it was born Aruna, but his body was not yet fully developed. Aruna later became associated with Surya Bhagavan as his charioteer. Vinata waited patiently for the second egg. After a long period, the egg finally opened, and Garuda was born with magnificent wings and extraordinary strength.

Garuda's Devotion and Courage

Garuda learned that his mother, Vinata, had become enslaved because of a difficult circumstance involving Kadru and her serpent sons. Determined to free his mother, Garuda undertook an extraordinary quest. The serpent beings demanded Amrita, the nectar of immortality, as the price for Vinata's freedom. Garuda therefore journeyed to the celestial realm and faced numerous challenges.

With his immense strength, courage and determination, Garuda overcame the obstacles and obtained the Amrita Kalasha. His purpose was not personal wealth or power. His goal was simple: To free his mother. This makes Garuda a powerful symbol of filial devotion, courage and selfless determination.

Bhagavan Vishnu and Garuda - A Symbol of Divine Harmony

Garuda's extraordinary devotion and strength attracted the grace of Bhagavan Vishnu. Garuda became the divine Vahana of Vishnu, carrying the Lord across the heavens. The relationship between Vishnu and Garuda represents a beautiful combination of divine wisdom and devoted service.

Garuda is not merely a vehicle of Vishnu. He is also regarded as a great devotee who represents complete surrender, courage and unwavering service to Bhagavan.

Bhagavan Vishnu is traditionally depicted resting upon Adishesha, the divine serpent, while Garuda serves as His celestial vehicle. These two sacred forms remind us of the vast and harmonious nature of the divine.

Garuda represents speed, strength and devoted service, while Vishnu represents protection, preservation and cosmic order. Together, they inspire devotees to live with strength in action, purity in thought and devotion in the heart.

Why Do Devotees Worship Garuda?

Devotees worship Garuda seeking:

    • Protection from obstacles
    • Courage and inner strength
    • Freedom from fear
    • Family well-being
    • Prosperity and auspiciousness
    • Devotion and spiritual strength
    • Victory over difficulties
    • Protection from negative influences

Garuda is especially remembered for his fearlessness. His story reminds devotees that difficulties should be faced with faith, courage and determination.

Garuda Panchami Puja

On Garuda Panchami, devotees may begin the day with a bath and a clean, peaceful prayer space. A picture or idol of Bhagavan Vishnu with Garuda may be placed on the altar. Devotees traditionally offer flowers, fruits, lamps, incense and other appropriate offerings according to their family tradition.

The most important part of the observance is not the grandeur of the ritual, but devotion and sincerity.

Sri Karuppannaswami Mantra

Arulmigu Karuppasami, also known as Karuppannasami, Karuppar, or Karuppasamy stands as a guardian deity for (kaval deivam) worshipped primarily in Tamil Nadu, as well as in some other South Indian states and parts of Sri Lanka. He is a village guardian deity often seen as a symbol of justice, protection, and dharma (cosmic law and order). He is considered a form of Shiva or an attendant of Lord Veerabhadra, and in some traditions, a manifestation of Kala Bhairava, another fierce form of Shiva. He is not part of the classical Hindu pantheon (like Vishnu, Shiva, etc.), but rather a folk deity, which makes him deeply rooted in village and rural traditions.

The story of his origin may include information that many have not heard before!

According to a tale from the Ramayana, when Valmiki plucked a blade of dharba grass and gave it life, it transformed into Karuppannasami. A devotional line that says “Karuppasami born from the dharba" supports this origin. It is also believed that Karuppasami is the child born to Sri Veerabhadra and Chandi.

Another piece of research suggests that temples for Karuppasami were built at places where individuals named Karuppan or Karuppasami were beheaded and buried.

Karuppasami appears in various postures in temples — standing, sitting, and even riding a horse as he goes out. He is usually portrayed with a majestic form, wearing a headgear, a cloth tied around his waist (kacchai), with fierce eyes, a curled mustache, and wielding a machete (arival). Most often, he is seen blessing devotees while holding a sukkumandha stick .

Offerings suitable for Karuppannasami include: sweet pongal, flattened rice (aval), roasted chickpeas, mango, banana, jackfruit, guava, and tender coconut.

Karuppasami Dhyanam (Meditation Verse):
